Football Favourites

Ran from it's Editorial offices at 80 Hart Street Southport Lancashire known as "Provincial Sports Publications".

This 16 page magazine was a delivery vehicle for its unique centre pages. These were card and featured black and white photographs of footballers to "Cut out Neatly".Presumably they were competing with the likes of ABC cards and had come up with this clever idea.

Two further pages of the magazine were filled with the players biographies.

The articles were not just page fillers they had regular journalists like John E Reynolds. Later DC Comics would use the name "Football Favourites" as a free insert in its comics but only this original one stood alone for sale in it's own right.

These magazines are very rare because they were quickly cut up into cards and discarded.

I think because this magazine is first and foremost about cards I dont think it is correct to descibe it as the first football magazine even though it beat Charles Buchan by a year.
