"The Footballer" the "Journal of Soccer History and Statistics
"The Footballer" started in May/June 1988 and was sub titled the "Journal of Soccer History and Statistics" and ran until May/June 1996. It was published by the book company Sports Promotion International.
NB Whilst the numbering jumps about the spine edge correctly notes "Issue numbers. They had many problems with breaks in production and four publishers and a different dating system which means the numbers are all over the place.
('The Footballer' changed publisher four times, Issues 1-14 - 1st publisher, Issues 15-21 - 2nd publisher, Issues 22 & 23 - 3rd publisher, Issues 24-36 - 4th publisher.)
For the most part it was a bi-monthly magazine, Issue 1 is undated, but Issue 2 is dated July/August 1988.
Volume 1 ran for 7 editions until May/June 89. Then there was a gap and change in publisher.
Volume 2 started in Aug/Sept 89- and ran for 7 editions until Aug/Sept 90. Then there was a year's gap and another change in publisher.
Volume 3 restarted Sept/Oct 91 and ran for 7 issues until Nov/Dec 1992. The next gap comes with publisher number three and a decision to go to issue numbers rather than dates so No 22 June 1993 is the next issue.
No 23 October 1993 went ahead but then another break with No 24 (publisher number 4) covering June/July 94. It continued bi-monthly until a weird tri-monthly Issue 29 April/June 1995 ,they got back into the swing of things with Issue 30 July/Aug 1995 and continued though to their final ever issue -Issue 36 July/Aug 96.
