| About Famous Footballers and Athletes
See below for the history of this magazine
Famous Footballers and Athletes edited by C.W. Alcock & Rowland Hill Published by Hudson & Kearns, with Photographers from the News of the World. Originally issued in 14-page weekly parts, or as single sheets in the News of the World. A very rare collection of this hard to source magazine set.
The reproduction quality is astounding, high quality photography of each subject reproduced on high quality paper. A unique touch was to add the player's autograph below each player.
Each weekly edition sold for 6d. Is is very rare to find 14 seperate magazines as the vast majority were bound into single volumes, which meant losing the magazine cover. Each magazine advertised a binding service:
Cloth 12/6 Half Calf 7/6 Half Morocco 7/6
Originally issued in 14-page weekly parts, or as single sheets in the News of the World. The publication is edited on the "Association" side by Charles Alcock, one of the early codifiers and administrators of the game, Secretary of the Football Association, instigator of the F.A. Cup, and the first man ever to be ruled offside; and the Rugby editor George Rowland Hill, for 23 years the Honorary Secretary of the Rugby Football Union, and the man who proposed the split between Union and League. Contains individual and team portraits of the greatest exponents of both the Association and Rugby codes.
The following is an alphabetical order, with players first followed by the team groups, but split between association footballers and rugby players.
Each listing in my catalogue has their specific contents.
