See below for the history of this magazine
The Magnet was a Weekly boys' story paper published by Amalgamated Press from 1908 to 1940, a total of 1683 issues.
The majority of the stories were written under the pen-name of Frank Richards and the vast majority of these stories were written by author Charles Hamilton, although substitute writers were sometimes also used.
It has been estimated by Lofts and Adley that Hamilton wrote around 100 million words or the equivalent of 1,200 average length novels, making him the most prolific author in history.
From my research it seems that the fictional public schools created by Hamilton were not very interested in football, be it Rugby or Association, only featuring occasionally.
I have found only one stand alone football story penned by Charles Hamilton and that was published in the Boy's Realm called 'Football Fortune - a tale of the great game' in 1905.
Hamilton was privately educated at Thorn House School in Ealing, where he learned Classical Greek among other subjects but was perhaps not a regular on the football pitch?
